This Aussie state has notched up its inaugural win on the official Best Australian Beaches 2025 lineup, topping the list for this year following a comprehensive deep-dive into the country’s coastlines and islands.
Beach expert Brad Farmer has compiled the Best Australian Beaches 2025 list with a 10km stretch of beaches in the southern portion of the Bay of Fires Conservation Reserve in Tasmania taking the top honour in 2025.
It’s also the first time the Best Australian Beaches title has been awarded to a cluster of beaches and not a single winner.
An Australian coastal veteran and Tourism Australia Friends of Australia, Farmer said while the water might be a bit cooler in Tasmania, its pristine Bay of Fires coastline is worthy of the coveted title of Best Australian Beach 2025.

“I spent plenty of time in Tasmania assessing the beaches and there were so many incredible options I couldn’t even settle on one, which is why, for the first time, I’m awarding the best beach to a cluster of neighbouring beach bays in the Bay of Fires,” he said.
Farmer added that Tasmania’s cooler water temps also tap into the trend of cold-water immersion, championed by Dutch ice swimmer Wim Hof.
“They say the colder water is good for you, but even if you’re not up for a refreshing dip there is still plenty to do and see along this 10km stretch of coast. It’s a location made for photography or painting, fishing and surfing,” he said.
