INDONESIA QUAKE: Flights continue after powerful quake leaves 82 dead in Lombok

Tourists and locals on Indonesia's island of Lombok were left in shock last night when a severe earthquake struck, making it the destination's second major earthquake in a week.

Tourists and locals on Indonesia’s island of Lombok were left in shock last night when a severe earthquake struck, making it the destination’s second major earthquake in a week.

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Lombok early Sunday evening – exactly one week after another 6.4 magnitude quake killed a little over a dozen people.

At least 82 people have been confirmed dead in the latest rumble and many more injured.

Local authorities said the quake was around 15km deep and was felt as far as neighbouring Denpasar in Bali where a few buildings experienced mild damage, including a department store and the airport terminal, ABC News reported.

Despite mild damage to gateways, AirAsia confirmed flights would continue to operate in and out of the two islands.

In a statement, AirAsia said services to and from Lombok and Bali are operating normally. However, guests travelling from 6-10 August have the option of changing their travel date within 14 calendar days or changing it for airline credit. Click here for more information.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep our guests updated on the latest developments.”
