Bundaberg goes for national recognition

It’s the Oscar nomination of the tourism sector with Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism being named as a finalist in the Australian Tourism Awards for best Destination Marketing campaign.

It’s the Oscar nomination of the tourism sector with Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism being named as a finalist in the Australian Tourism Awards for best Destination Marketing campaign.

The annual awards are the tourism industry’s premier event which recognises excellence in tourism and the 2013/2014 Turtle Campaign – already a winner at the Queensland Tourism Awards – has been named as a national finalist.

Chairman of Bundaberg North Burnett Tourism, Michael Owens said the results of the turtle campaign really speak for themselves.

He said this year alone the region has seen over 16,000 visitors.

“Year after year the turtle campaign marketing efforts spreads the message loud and clear that Bundaberg is the globally recognized destination visitors go to immerse themselves in a world-class turtle conservation experience and as the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.”

General manager Rick Matkowski said it’s great to get the recognition at a national level because it recognises the efforts of the region to draw more visitors.

“It’s wonderful to be nominated at a national level and hopefully take out the category to achieve even more exposure for our region.”

Local tourism operators Childers Eco Lodge has also been announced as a finalist in the New Tourism Development category and Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort in the Ecotourism category.

The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards will be held in Adelaide on 10 April.
