Business Suppliers – wise and generous choices

Sometimes by chance, somethings are meant to be. Courage, commitment, devotion, people putting themselves out there, not giving up. Lets celebrate an amazing company.

This story?

It’s how two blokes faced off in a fight, became friends, one who decided against child slavery, one who tried to assist, the efforts were noticed by a person who decided their company would help.

That story today is about Jo Palmer from Gate 7, a company with hearts in the right place, head in the right place.

Let’s learn some more. You will not believe the donation they made.

Where does Gate 7 fit in the travel industry?

“Gate 7 is a destination marketing company, working with tourism boards targeting the Australian and New Zealand leisure travel markets.

Services include training and education, evolve the product offering of our client destinations, generate publicity with media, community engagement with our destinations and partnering with all stakeholders to create consumer facing campaigns”.

Do you have a responsibility to minimise your impact?

“Australia is an incredibly privileged country. We need to look at ways we can give back. Giving brings passion, commitment and meaning to our existence.

But there is most certainly an incredible sense of satisfaction with taking this responsibility seriously from your first day of turn over.

For Gate 7, we’ve always contributed to social and welfare efforts and looking at ways to provide opportunity (education, medical care, social support) to those who live in poverty”.

Your company’s contribution to Project Karma – why?

“Travel is fascinating, it’s invigorating, it’s enlightening. It’s one of the strongest drivers of diplomacy, understanding and tolerance in the world.

Gate 7 and each of our team members has benefited greatly from the boom in international travel and the ever growing importance of travel’s role around the world.

Unfortunately, the dark side of tourism is also booming. 2 million children kept in sexual slavery. It’s a sickening thought. It is simply the luck of the draw that we have ended up enjoying the most enriching aspects of the travel boom, while 2 million beautiful innocent children, through no fault of their own, are suffering at the other end of the scale.

We feel so strongly that we need to direct our privilege to helping take these children out of captivity, and help give them the gift of opportunity they deserve”.

What was the reaction of your employees?

“We’ve decoded our contribution so that we all understand that each and every team member at Gate 7, through their individual work and the profit their work generates, is enabling Project Karma to free a child every two months from sexual slavery.

This gives everyone a direct sense of the impact their work makes. A number of people in the team want to be able to further leverage our contribution so we are looking at ways we can do this and encourage our extended travel industry community to get on board. Everyone is proud to know they are supporting this cause”.

Gate7 contributed an incredible $60,000to Project Karma and are still looking for ways to do more.

That’s exactly who I want to do business with.
