While some countries would be content having 805,137 Australians visit per year, Thailand sees an opportunity to grow the figure and believes Low-Cost Carriers may be the way to do it.
Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT), new Director for Australia, told KARRYON that although penetration in the Australian market is healthy, there’s room for growth, which could be achieved via more budget services.
Suladda Sarutilavan explained that currently there’s a relatively small number of airlines flying non-stop and direct between Australia and Thailand, most of which are premium carriers.
She believes that introducing more low-cost services between the two destinations could further enhance travel and entice more Aussies to visit.
“We would like to see more low cost carriers connecting Australia to Thailand, hopefully in the short future.”

In the meantime, Suladda said Thailand would continue to nurture its relationships with trade partners to boost tourism from Australia, while also working closers with airlines offering non-direct flights.
Outside of aviation, cruise is also an area the Southeast Asian country is aiming to improve through new partnerships with cruise lines, particularly those sending ships to multiple ASEAN nations.
