Cambodia introduces dress code for Angkor Wat

Travellers who don't dress 'appropriately' for the Cambodia's religious site, Angkor Wat, will be refused entry, according to new reports.

Travellers who don’t dress ‘appropriately’ for the Cambodia’s religious site, Angkor Wat, will be refused entry, according to new reports.

Commencing from 4 August, overseers of the religious monument, Apsara Authority, will enforce a strict dress code to ensure visitors are respecting the “temple’s sanctity”.

Women will either have to wear pants or skirts below the knees, while no singlets or tank tops will be permitted, with all shirts required to cover the shoulders, The Australian reported.

Foreigners who don’t adhere to the dress code will be asked to change their clothes before entering.

All hotels, tours agencies and airports are being advised of the change in policy to ensure travellers are aware of the requirements before heading to the famed site. A notice has also been posted on Apsara Authority’s website with examples of what visitors can not wear.

Here’s one example found of the website:

Around 2.1 million international tourists visit the site, which was the capital of the Khmer Empire from the ninth to the 15th century. Check out the full list of clothing regulations below:
