The warm up for ‘Rendez-vous New Caledonia’ is in full swing with ten excited wholesalers and travel media touching down on the island yesterday.

In the next three days Australian and New Zealand wholesalers and travel media will discover the northern part of New Caledonia during a pre-famil leading up to the ‘Rendez-vous New Caledonia’ workshop taking place on Friday 29th May.

With New Caledonia being the third largest nickel exporter in the world the country’s main focus has traditionally not been on tourism, however the beautiful island has become a popular choice amongst Australian and New Zealand travellers who is looking for an adventure-filled authentic holiday.

New Caledonia offers a spectacular view of lush green hills.

Starting the journey from La Tontouta the group drove across the island towards Bourail which is a commune in the South Province of New Caledonia.

First stop was the Bourail New Zealand Cemetery, which is located nine kilometres south-east of Bourtail on the main road north and east of the Nera River.

The War Cemetery was contracted by the New Zealand authorities for the burial of members of the New Zealand forces during the WWII between 1939-1945.

Bourail is located between the mountains and the sea and is a popular destination for surfers with its white wild sand beaches.

Last year in August Sheraton Deva Resort and Spa opened its doors in Bourail making it the first resort in the region.

The French Prime Minister visited the resort last year and it has become a popular destination for French as well as Australian and New Zealand visitors.

The resort is made up of wooden bungalows which are tastefully blended in with the natural beauty of the area.

Situated right on the beach with the unspoiled reef this resort lends itself well to anyone who enjoys snorkelling, kayaking and surfing.
