Sold out in 6 days! Experience Oz adds $7.2M+ to Gold Coast tourism recovery

Big Red Group pushed more than $7.2 million through its Gold Coast-based Experience Oz consumer brand into the now sold-out Queensland Government’s GC Summer FUNds voucher campaign to revitalise the city’s experience economy after severe storms.

Big Red Group pushed more than $7.2 million through its Gold Coast-based Experience Oz consumer brand into the now sold-out Queensland Government’s GC Summer FUNds voucher campaign to revitalise the city’s experience economy after severe storms.

The GC Summer FUNds site powered and built by Big Red Group offered 50,000 vouchers for South-East Queenslanders to use at Gold Coast-based experience operators.

Just six days after launching, all 50,000 $50 vouchers were claimed with more than $7.2 million spent on attractions and experiences to support over 180 tours, attractions and experiences operators via Experience Oz.

The $2.5 million initiative was delivered in partnership with the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland, Experience Gold Coast and City of Gold Coast to support operators impacted by weather events over the peak summer holiday period.

Big Red Group Co-Founder & CEO David Anderson was delighted to partner as a website and fulfilment partner on this campaign with its consumer brand Experience Oz.

“We experienced unprecedented demand from the moment the campaign launched with up to 200,000 South-East Queenslanders on the site at any moment rushing to book,” Mr Anderson said.

“Vouchers have been redeemed at an incredible rate with up to 200 purchases per minute and selling out all 50,000 vouchers within six days.

“A success measured on many levels, but, in particular by the number of experience operators who have called our team, grateful for bookings at a time when they need them most,” he said.

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Patricia O’Callaghan was thrilled at the campaign’s positive impact.

“The Gold Coast tourism industry lost some of their best trading days of the year as a result of these recent storms and it is really great to see the positive impact of the GC Summer FUNDs campaign in helping these businesses,” she said.
