Fiji shifts its focus towards luxury travellers

Fiji has always been well known as a family friendly destination, but this year the focus for Tourism Fiji will shift to the high-end luxury market.

Fiji has always been well known as a family friendly destination, but this year the focus for Tourism Fiji will shift to the high-end luxury market.

Speaking to KarryOn at the Fiji Tourism Exchange (FTE 2017), Tourism Fiji CEO, Matthew Stoeckel said despite the challenges of last year, there is a positive outlook in 2017.

“Growth in the luxury space is a big focus this year, proving Fiji is not just about a family destination, but has a high-end luxury offering for couples,” Stoeckel added.

The opening of three luxury properties in 2017 has boosted this drive, with Six Senses Fiji, Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay and Kokomo Private Island Fiji the newest additions to an already star studded luxury line up.

Six Senses Fiji

Fiji boosts luxury offerings - Six Senses Fiji

The super luxurious Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas is slated to open Six Senses Fiji later this year in the secluded bay on Fiji’s Malolo Island. The resort will boast 26 spacious pool bures (villa) all with private plunge pools and 15 luxury residences (3, 4, 5 and 6 bedroom configuration) all on a private golden sand beach frontage that stretches over 650 meters in length. The resort will then expand to 60 luxury residences in time.

Keeping with the Six Senses culture, the property will focus on sustainability and well being. It will be the first solar powered property in the region, grow its own organic produce and will even have ‘Cluckingham Palace’, a chicken coop fit for royalty. Locally inspired, the resort’s cuisine will feature ingredients grown onsite in the resort market gardens and from local farmers, markets and fishermen.

Karen Morris, Director of Marketing, Six Senses Fiji, told KarryOn that guests will get more than just a resort stay. “It is all about the experience, from collecting your own eggs from Cluckingham Palace for breakfast, to an all layered approach to wellness that unites a pioneering spirit with treatments that go beyond ordinary.”

The resort will start taking bookings 4 months out from opening, with rates due to be available in the next 6-8 weeks.
