Capella Hotels & Resorts’ first Australian property will be Capella Sydney, opening in March 2023 in the heritage-listed Department of Education building within the CBD’s Sandstone Precinct.
Established in 1915 and occupying an entire city block, the 5-star Capella Sydney will reimagine the Edwardian Baroque features with a contemporary design aesthetic.
The eight-level, 192-guestroom hotel will open for online reservations from mid-December 2022. Capella Sydney is designed to create a benchmark for luxury stays, cuisine and cultural immersion.
“Capella Sydney is not just an ode to the city and Sydneysiders, it’s an open invitation for discerning travellers from all around the world to visit Australia and experience the magic of this place we call home,” General Manager Marc von Arnim said.

“The Capella brand is synonymous with luxury, hospitality excellence and cultural immersion. Capella Sydney takes this to the next level through unparalleled heritage work, architecture and interior design, state-of-the-art wellness facilities and transformative guest experiences.”
Capella Sydney celebrates the Australian panorama with curated artwork, sophisticated furnishings and objet d’art throughout the hotel.
The well-appointed, spacious guestrooms and suites average more than 55sqm with standalone tubs, custom Italian Frette linen and Haeckels amenities.

The hotel will also feature three ground-level food and beverage venues and meeting and event spaces. Guests have exclusive access to a wellness offering with an Auriga Spa, fitness centre, yoga platform and 20m heated indoor swimming pool.
Capella Sydney is located on Loftus, Bridge and Young streets in Sydney’s CBD. The award-winning Capella Hotel Group comprises two brands – Capella Hotels & Resorts and Patina Hotels & Resorts – with nine properties in seven Asian locations.
