European budget travel brand FlixBus is bringing affordable bus tickets Down Under with fares under $10, cutting costs as it seeks to compete with other interstate buses, trains and even planes on the Sydney-Canberra-Melbourne corridor.
Known for low prices and a fast (and easy-to-use) online booking platform, FlixBus is set to shake up intercity and interstate travel in Australia.
Launching on 20 November 2025, promo fares between Sydney, Canberra, Albury and Melbourne start from AUD$9.99 for tickets purchased by 30 November 2025 for select travel dates until 9 June 2026.
Using dynamic pricing, tickets rise to $40 on the Canberra corridor and $60 on the Melbourne route – still a budget-friendly alternative to most transport options.
Sydney to Canberra takes 3.5 hours’ duration, while Sydney to Melbourne, one of the world’s busiest domestic air routes, clocks in at around 11 hours and 20 minutes of drive time.

While its distinctive lime green buses are still to arrive, the first Flix routes have already rolled out on standard white charter coaches for the first passengers in Australia.
When available, FlixBus will offer spacious seats with extra legroom and onboard amenities include free Wi-Fi, USB charging outlets and toilets on modern coaches.

Passengers can bring one carry-on and two stowed luggage items on the bus and expect set travel times.
FlixBus will also increase the service frequency with Melbourne and Sydney having an additional two coach services per day, while Canberra now has almost double the coach services between the capital and Sydney, including overnight buses.
