Images of Sydney’s iconic harbour will be all over American TV screens later today, as NBC’s Today show’s Savannah Guthrie touches down for a special live broadcast of the US show.

The Australian-born host arrived at Sydney Airport early yesterday morning, accompanied by her mother, Nancy.

The two haven’t touched Australian soil since they left for the US in the 70s.

As part of her visit, Savannah will broadcast live from 9.00pm local time from the East Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, Sydney Harbour and historical inner-city neighborhoods of Paddington and Surry Hills is also on the agenda for Australian-born TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and the TODAY crew.

It will not only air to some 5.6 million viewers across the USA on top-rated breakfast show NBC Today, but also appear in feeds of four million TODAY Facebook fans.

Using the hashtag #savannahinsydney, Sydneysiders have been invited to join the crowd to watch the broadcast and welcome Savannah to the city.

Destination NSW Chief Executive Officer Sandra Chipchase said Savannah will experience some of the ‘very best’ Sydney has to offer including the BridgeClimb, visiting the iconic Sydney Opera House, witnessing our lifesavers and nippers in action on the sands of Bondi Beach and shopping along the style-miles of Paddington and Surry Hills.

“We’re also planning a special preview of Vivid Sydney, our festival of music, light and ideas which warms up the city with a celebration of light music and ideas from 22 May to 8 June; plus a meet-and-greet with furry friends from Featherdale Wildlife Park.”

Other Destination NSW suggestions for Savannah and her crew to trial while in the city include brunch at Pinbone, taking the Manly to Spit Bridge Scenic Walkway, lunch by the harbour and a treatment at endota spa in the historic The Rocks precinct.

The pair plan to celebrate an early Mother’s Day together while they are here.
