HANDS OF GOD: Vietnam's new bridge is already a social media sensation

It looks utterly surreal: two colossal steel hands holding up a golden walkway in the sky. But the impressive piece of architecture is indeed real.

It looks utterly surreal: two colossal steel hands holding up a golden walkway in the sky. But the impressive piece of architecture is indeed real.

Set more than 1000 metres above sea level in Vietnam’s Ba Na Hills, the 150-metre pedestrian walkway was designed to evoke the image of the giant hands of God, pulling a strip of gold out of the land.

It’s hoped the unique structure, which opened in June, will attract more tourists to Central Vietnam.

Design company TA Landscape Architecture based Ho Chi Minh City said the entire construction of the bridge took about a year.

“It creates a walkway in the sky, among the foggy and fairy-like lands of Ba Na mountain.”

Vu Viet Anh, Design Principal at TA Landscape Architecture.

The walkway extends over the treetops from the edge of a leafy cliff face, offering uninterrupted views of the beautiful landscape beneath.

Tourists in Vietnam are already saying that they love the experience of walking over the bridge.

“I feel like I’m walking and the clouds are below my feet like I am actually stepping on the clouds. It’s so interesting and so much fun,” one tourist told Euro News.

“I think this is a wonderful architectural idea. It makes me feels like the human hands can create anything. This is very beautiful.”

According to Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Ba Na Hills area saw over 2.7 million visitors last year.

Will the majestic structure lend a helping hand in increasing that figure? Only time will tell, although the fact that images of the bridge have already gone viral online is a promising sign.
