Heavy rain causes floods across Fiji

Travellers have been advised that roads to parts of Nadi have been closed today as heavy rain causes widespread flooding across the island nation.

The NaDraki Weather Service reported that Fiji has received nearly 200mm of rain over the last 24 hours.

Flash flooding has affected several residential areas and lead to road closures.

According to the Fiji Roads Authority, Nadi Road is closed off to traffic along with Denarau Road and the Valley Road in Sigatoka.

The Nanukuloa slip in Rakiraki is operational, however, one lane has been closed, while a temporary crossing is handling traffic at Bucalevu, Korovou.

Dawakato and Vuci South Road in Rewa are closed as is the Navulokani Road in Naqani.

Authorities are urging all motorists to drive with caution and advised pedestrians to steer clear of flooded roads.

So far, airports haven’t been affected by the rain or floods. Fiji Airways has confirmed to KarryOn that flights in and out of Australia have not been impacted and are running on schedule. Click here for more information.
