As of today, Spain has nixed its border restrictions for travellers from non-European Union/Schengen Area countries, including Australia. International travellers are no longer required to show valid vaccination, recovery or certificate status to enter Spain.

Spain’s Ministry of Interior posted the news on its website, stating that from 21 October, COVID-19 health control measures for arrivals from non-EU countries will no longer be in effect.

“As of October 21, the health control measures for passengers from non-EU or Schengen-associated countries are without effect,” the Spanish Ministry of Interior also stated on Twitter.

On 20 September, Spain removed some border rules for overseas visitors, removing the mandatory health control form and QR code requirement.

However, travellers to Spain were still required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or show evidence of recovery from COVID-19 within the last six months or a negative PCR or antigen test before departure.

The removal of these final border control measures now finally puts Spain in line with all other EU countries that have fully reopened to international tourism, including Luxembourg, which reopened to non-EU travellers on 1 October.

The Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Tourism has also reported that Spain recovered 87 per cent of international tourists compared to 2019 levels along with pre-pandemic spending levels.
