All of Indonesia lifts international arrival quarantine rules

Indonesia has lifted its quarantine rules for international visitors nationwide, following a successful trial run on the resort island of Bali, the Tourism Ministry says.

Quarantine-free travel has been expanded to all of Indonesia, thanks to compliance to strict health protocols and a low rate of positive Covid tests, Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno said in a statement on Tuesday.

Visitors are now only required to produce a negative PCR test, he said, adding that details on new rules would be released later this week.

Visitors from 43 countries are also eligible for visas on arrival in Bali, up from 23 countries previously, Uno said.

Indonesia lifted the quarantine rule for Bali on March 7.

What travellers are required to do:

  • Show booking confirmation and payment for a hotel booking of at least four days
  • Hold a certificate showing proof of full vaccination or received booster jabs
  • Take a RT-PCR test on arrival and wait in the hotel room until negative result received
  • Take another RT-PCR test on the third day

Countries eligible for visas on arrival:

Australia, New Zealand, United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Netherlands, France, Japan, South Korea, UAE, Turkey, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Qatar, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines and Cambodia.

Previously, international visitors to Indonesia were required to undergo a three-day quarantine period, in addition to needing proof of vaccination on arrival.

Bali received more than 6.3 million international visitors in 2019, but the number of foreign arrivals dropped to just 45 last year because of a Covid-19 lockdown in the country.

Indonesia joins a number of other Asian countries to relax entry requirements recently, including Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and South Korea.

Last week, Cambodia was dubbed the easiest country to travel to in the region right now, after an announcement that a negative PCR or Rapid Antigen Test is no longer required to enter the Kingdom.
