22 September marked International Hobbit Day, which celebrates to birthdays of the two main Hobbits in Tolkien’s incredible Lord of the Rings series.
Wizards, Elves, and Hobbits around the world came together yesterday to celebrate the magic of Middle Earth, Bilbo Baggins on his 111th birthday, and Frodo Baggins on his 50th birthday.
In New Zealand, The Hobbiton Film Set, near Matamata, celebrates the occasion into a huge annual day event filled with games, food, performances, and of course, cosplay.
It’s safe to say, fans love it.
International Hobbit Day
International Hobbit Day 2020 saw Lord of the Rings fans attend the start of Tolkien Week, celebrating both Frodo and Bilbo Baggins’ birthdays.
Modern-day Hobbits purchased tickets costing $220 and attending the day-long celebration packed full of fun and adventure; including food and beverages, best-dressed competitions, set tours, and the introduction of Hobbiton’s newest venue, The Millhouse.
Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand made tributes to International Hobbit Day 2020 and fans shared their love and appreciation for J.R.R Tolkien’s incredible world-building and Sir Peter Jackson’s 2001 film trilogy by reminiscing about their experiences and sharing their incredible Middle Earth inspired outfits and photography.
