The strong storm made landfall in Japan yesterday (4 September) afternoon, bringing with it winds of 126km per hour and heavy rainfall, Japan Meteorological Agency reported.

Eight people have been confirmed dead by the severe weather, while dozens of others have been injured.

Buildings sustained mild damage during Typhoon Jebi’s arrival, including Osaka’s international airport which, according to The Sydney Morning Herald, has closed its runways today due to flooding.

In an online statement, the gateway confirmed all flights would be cancelled and access to the airport will also be restricted. However, holidaymakers can use the Bay Shuttle to travel from Kansai Airport to Kobe Airport.

“We deeply apologies for the… passengers that are left in Kansai International Airport to be experiencing the inconvenience.”
