JUXTAPOSITION: Western Europe’s tallest building is coming to a tiny town in Denmark

Western Europe’s tallest building is going to be erected in the most unexpected place: the tiny town of Brande in Denmark,  home to just 7,000 residents.

Why on earth, you ask? Good question. It’s actually going to be the headquarters for fashion giant Bestseller, which was originally founded in the small town back in the 1970s.

Bestseller thinks that the skyscraper, which will stand on 320 metres and will be visible from up 60km away, will become a ‘landmark’.

The Guardian reported that there had been serious objections to the building form some residents (which comes as no surprise right?) with concerns it will destroy the ‘undisturbed landscape’.

Despite this the local council has already approved it so it looks like this thing is actually happening!

Designed by architect firm Dorte Mandrup, the massive building is set to become home to 30 stores, educational facilities, hotel accommodation and of course multiple Bestseller offices.

There is no confirmation as to when building will start with project manager Anders Krogh saying it is important “to underline that the city council’s approval is merely one of the preliminary steps of a long journey”.

What do you think of the proposal?
