Sydney’s Vivid festival is making a shiny bright comeback this winter after the pandemic forced the celebration of light, music and ideas to be put on ice for two years.
The world-renowned Vivid festival, which transforms the harbour city into a kaleidoscope of colour, will return on May 27 and run until June 18.
Destination NSW promises the festival will feature “mesmerising art displays, 3D light projections, uplifting live music performances and deep-dive discussions from the world’s brightest minds”.
For the first time ever the Light Walk will stretch for eight kilometres, linking the Sydney Opera House to Central Station with 47 installations and projections.
Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres says Vivid Sydney will bring joy back to the city and attract international tourists who will be allowed back from Monday.
“The 2022 program will be the biggest and brightest yet, with many festival-firsts, providing even more reasons for Sydneysiders and visitors from around the country – and all over the world – to immerse themselves in our city at its creative best,” Mr Ayres said.
“Vivid Sydney makes a vital social and economic contribution during winter. From our creative industries to entertainment and hospitality venues, accommodation and retailers, it supports the entire ecosystem of the NSW visitor economy.”
Last year Vivid Sydney 2021 was added to the long list of inspiring events that were forced to be postponed or cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In August 2021, Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said Vivid Sydney would be a shining light for the community to look forward to.
“Vivid Sydney 2022 will shine brighter than ever – our artists and creative industries are so eager to put on a show and we can’t wait to see the Harbour City shining brightly again,” Mr Ayres said.
