LUCK OF THE IRISH: Tourism Ireland Roadshow a success

Tourism Ireland have wrapped up their 2018 Australia and New Zealand Sales Mission after hosting a series of travel trade workshops and networking events across Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Tourism Ireland have wrapped up their 2018 Australia and New Zealand Sales Mission after hosting a series of travel trade workshops and networking events across Auckland, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Their week-long sales mission gave island of Ireland industry partners the opportunity to engage and build business relationships with key Australian and New Zealand outbound travel trade, product wholesalers, key decision makers, and media.

The 12 industry partners who made their way to the Southern Hemisphere for the roadshows were Adams & Butler, Belmond Grand Hibernian, Griffin Group, Guinness Storehouse, House of Waterford Crystal, Original Irish Hotels, Railtours Ireland First Class, Teeling Whiskey, The Merrion Hotel, Titanic Belfast, Tourism Northern Ireland and Wicklow’s Historic Gaol .

Aoife Finnegan of Tourism Ireland Australia said the Sales Mission has proved to be “an invaluable opportunity for each of these partners to meet with over 300 Australian and New Zealand travel trade through a series of workshops and networking events”.

She said tourism to the island of Ireland was going from strength to strength, in fact, since 2010 visitors from Australia had more than doubled.

In 2017, Ireland welcomed around 200,000 visitors from Australia. And the outlook for this year is good, with sentiment among the Australian and New Zealand travel trade very positive.

Last year was actually the best year on record for tourism to Ireland, with the emerald isle welcoming over 9 million overseas visitors from all over the world, contributing around €5 billion to their economy.

Look forward to 2019, Aofie said For 2019 Tourism Ireland will be heavily promoting the Ireland Specialist programme.

The Ireland Specialist programme is an online training course designed to give international travel agents and tour operators the expert knowledge and skills necessary to promote Ireland as a holiday destination.
