Travellers passing through Australia’s busiest 24/7 airport will have more overnight stay options starting in July 2024.
The dual-branded Novotel and ibis Styles Melbourne Airport will start welcoming guests through its doors from 1 July 2024, adding 464 new guest rooms to the airport precinct’s accommodation options.
The project, valued at $230 million, is Victoria’s largest hotel development this year and marks the first development of its kind within the airport precinct in nearly 20 years.
The Novotel and ibis Styles Melbourne Airport hotel development, designed by FK Architect with interiors by Woods Bagot, is a significant win for the travel economy with an increase in stay options for passengers in and out of Melbourne.
The hotel offers 464 stylishly designed guest rooms, 248 of which are in Novotel and 216 in ibis Styles.
The new properties are located within The Hive precinct within easy walking distance of Terminal 4 at Melbourne Airport.

Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer PM&E Adrian Williams said: “As the countdown begins to the launch of Novotel and ibis Styles Melbourne Airport, we’re thrilled to be working with Melbourne Airport to deliver the first internationally branded hotels to open at the airport in more than 20 years.”
“Not only will the new-build hotels provide more choice for travellers seeking a place to stay, they will also offer a welcoming hub for the workers in the airport precinct. Having just been voted the best airport in Australia and the Pacific, it’s only fitting that Melbourne Airport will now be able to meet the increasing demand for more hotel rooms and have greater choice,” he added.
“These landmark hotel openings complement and expand upon Accor’s extensive experience with operating airport hotels in key gateway cities across the Pacific region, including Sydney, Brisbane, Darwin, Auckland and Christchurch.”

The design of Novotel Melbourne Airport is inspired by the scenes of regional Victoria, providing a natural and calming atmosphere with a soothing colour scheme to create a relaxing haven.
New hotel development at Melbourne Airport
ibis Styles Melbourne Airport’s design embodies Melbourne’s vibrant urban vibe with its unique, playful and personalised aesthetic.
In a move to showcase Melbourne’s global culinary offerings, travellers have the option to dine at three venues: Small Holdings Cafe for coffee and pastries, Boccata Restaurant and Wine Bar for Italian fare and Amber State Taphouse & Kitchen, a modern gastro-pub.
Guests and transient travellers will be able to access Higher State, Melbourne’s first airport health and wellbeing club – offering an indoor heated pool, sauna, massage and fitness center for self-care after a long flight.
In addition, The Hive precinct also provides business travellers with access to three conference and event spaces. This includes a ballroom that can accommodate up to 330 guests and The Aerofoil, an ultra-modern hotel-serviced co-working space located across two floors.
Melbourne Airport’s Head of Property Development and Asset Development, Stuart Verrier, shared his excitement to give more accommodation choices to travellers and airport workers alike.
“Melbourne is now Australia’s largest city, and these hotels are essential for the growing number of people visiting our city, many of whom need a night before or after a long flight,” he said.
“But more than that, they also offer dining, wellness, conference and co-working facilities that provide a reason to come out to Melbourne Airport – even if you’re not flying.”

“As Victoria’s gateway to the world, Melbourne Airport provides the perfect hub for travellers so we’re thrilled to be opening the first new-build internationally branded hotels at the airport in 20 years,” Novotel & ibis Styles Melbourne Airport General Manager added.
“Given that passenger numbers will only continue to increase over the coming years, these properties are a much-needed addition to Melbourne’s tourism industry and are set to bring huge economic and social benefits not only to Melbourne but also to the state of Victoria.”

Novotel and ibis Styles Melbourne Airport, located in the City of Hume, are also partnering with local attractions to enhance the guest experience.
The hotels offer easy access to Melbourne Airport with continued plans to build partnership programs with URBNSurf, Essendon Football Club, Melbourne Airport Golf Club and Sunbury wine region.
In February 2024, Melbourne Airport announced the opening of instant access to hourly hotel stays at Australia’s busiest 24/7 hub in an exciting move for travellers.
