Colombia celebrates its annual Tomatina festival in town of Sutamarchan where thousands of eager participants hurl millions of overripe tomatoes at one another.
The annual celebration of the tomato takes place in the town of Sutamarchan, which is about 75 miles from Bogota in Colombia.
The town has played host to the annual Tomatina festial for the past nine years and the Sunday celebration was just a messy as ever.
During the three-day Tomatina festival almost 20,000 participants have come out to throw overripe tomatos at one another.
And there is no coincidence that the fruit throwing festival is taking place in Sutamarchan since the town is situated in the region with the highest amount of tomato production in all of Latin America.

Throwing overripe tomatoes is not the only activity taking place during the three-day celebration, other events include a contest to find the largest tomato and a tomato-eating race.

The annual celebration of the tomato takes place in the town of Sutamarchan, which is about 75 miles from Bogota in Colombia.
The central city’s annual celebration is inspired by a festival of the same name in the town of Bunol near Valencia, Spain which saw 125 tonnes of overripe tomatoes being hurled throughout the Spanish streets last year.
