“You need to hire a car if you want to get around Los Angeles. Their public transportation system isn’t that great.”

Mythbuster! Los Angeles does have public transport, it’s actually pretty reliable AND it just got a whole lot better.

Last week, the City of Angels launched Phase 2 of its Metro Expo Line Extension, which connects travellers (and locals of course) from Culver City to Santa Monica.

This means holidaymakers – who either want travel in an eco-friendly way or aren’t feeling too confident about getting behind the wheel – can now jump on a train and discover the street art, entertainment venues and cultural institutions of up and coming Downtown LA.

OR they can check out the new SkySlide – a glass-bottomed slide hovering 1,000-feet above city sidewalks; Grand Central Market; and The Last Bookstore – California’s largest used and new book an record store.

OR on the other side of the track, travellers can use the Metro to check out Santa Monica’s Pier, world-class collection of museums, sports facilities and recreations areas. There’s also La Brea for a little culture, shopping, art and dining.

Discover Los Angeles’ CEO and President, Ernest Wooden Jr., said the Metro Expo Line Extension marks a significant moment in LA and a big step towards making it “easier and more convenient” to travellers.

“The extension project is proof that our city is committed to changing perceptions of our car-centric roots, while programs like carfreeL.A. enhance the Los Angeles visitor experience without relying on a car.”

“The Metro Expo Line Extension will offer tourists a convenient and enjoyable way to travel from Downtown L.A. to the beaches of Santa Monica and popular neighborhoods in between,” Metro CEO, Phil Washington, added.

“We are excited to debut the newest extension to our network of railways that connect travellers to various L.A. regions, which is home to world-class entertainment, attractions and cultural institutions including, Universal Studios in Hollywood, Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, The Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown and so much more.”
