KARRYON’s Mythbuster series is back, this time we’re taking you to South Africa where we learn that it really isn’t all that expensive to visit the Rainbow Nation.
Although images of ultra-luxe resorts, overland camping and safaris may suggest a hefty price tag for the country, South Africa’s tourism leaders said that’s definitely not the case.
More specifically, they stressed that “you don’t need to sell your house to visit”.
Speaking to Travel Agents in Sydney last week, South African Tourism’s Chief Operations Office described the country as “very affordable”, particularly for Australians.
Sthembiso Dlamini said at the South African Tourism Roadshow that although it’s not a “cheap destination”, it’s absolutely “affordable”.
“We pride ourselves on being a very affordable destination, not a cheap destination, but a very affordable because you get to enjoy a lot more experiences for a reasonable price.”

So anyone hesitating to book a trip to South Africa purely over cost needn’t worry because it’s not as expensive as you may think.
Meanwhile, South African Tourism’s Head for Australasia, Mosilo Sofonia, told roadshow attendees that there is no best time to visit the Rainbow Nation because it’s “good to visit at any time”.
“Our weather is pretty similar to Australia and any time is a good time to visit.”
Mosilo Sofonia, South African Tourism Head for Australasia.
The country’s annual roadshow was held in Sydney last week at Luna Park. The event was hosted by comedic genius Urzila Carlson and saw hundreds of Agents learning about South Africa’s many offerings.
