New campaign to boost Chinese tourism to NSW

Qantas in partnership with Destination NSW have launched a new campaign to promote more Chinese tourists to Sydney and regional NSW.

Qantas in partnership with Destination NSW have launched a new campaign to promote more Chinese tourists to Sydney and regional NSW.

The new campaign is a result of talks between NSW Premier Mike Baird and Qantas China-based executives in Shanghai last week. Both parties want to see more Chinese tourism in this part of Australia – a trend that is unlikely to waver anytime soon.

In fact, the number of Chinese visitors coming to Sydney and NSW increased by an impressive 24 percent in the last year for a grand total of 526,000 visitors. China is NSW’s largest inbound tourism market, bringing into the country an estimated $2 billion each year.

The campaign includes a digital billboard in Shanghai promoting travel to NSW with Qantas. Travel partners will also promote travel packages for Chinese visitors to experience the Vivid Sydney Festival in 2016.

According to Qantas International CEO Gareth Evans, now was the right time to promote the best of NSW to Chinese visitors.

“With record numbers of Chinese holidaymakers travelling to Australia and the opportunities opening up as a result of the Free Trade agreement, we are thrilled to partner with Destination NSW to showcase the best experiences the state has to offer.”

Along with promoting Sydney itself to potential Chinese visitors, the campaign will also highlight the state’s rich regional attractions, such as the Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley, Central Coast, Port Stephens, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay.
