Thailand is tantalisingly closer for Sydneysiders this summer with budget airline Thai AirAsia X announcing a new four-weekly Sydney – Bangkok service from 2 December 2022, boosting connectivity and tourism between the two gateway cities.
The new services on Thai AirAsia X’s Airbus 330 will increase the airport’s network of 30-plus Asian destinations, providing travellers with more opportunities to take advantage of low-cost overseas air travel in the lead-up to the busy Christmas period with one-way flights ex SYD from AUD$299.
Sydney Airport CCO Greg Botham said the airport was thrilled to welcome Thai AirAsia X as its newest international carrier as part of the ongoing recovery of the SYD international network supported by the NSW Government’s Aviation Attraction Fund.
“Bangkok is a fantastic city with great connectivity to the regions of Thailand and is an incredibly popular destination for Australian leisure and business travellers,” Mr Botham said.
“This service will provide a great, low-cost option for Australians looking to secure travel over the busy end-of-year holidays to one of Asia’s most exciting destinations.”
Thai AirAsia X Acting CEO Tassapon Bijleveld also noted that Australia is one of the leading travel destinations for Thai tourists.
“Thai AirAsia X is very excited to add Sydney as one of its key destinations in Australia this year. Sydney has so much to offer in terms of economy, tourism and education, making it a prime addition to Thai AirAsia X’s growing network,” he said.
“Thais love Australia and Australians love Thailand and we are confident these new services will prove popular.”
Thai AirAsia X will also launch a new three-times-weekly service between Melbourne and Bangkok on 1 December 2022.
Thai AirAsia X is a joint venture between AirAsia X from Malaysia and Thai AirAsia and is based at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
