Fred Van Eijk

Travel Counsellors’ Fred van Eijk is busy in his home city of Amsterdam researching a trip to New York City in 2019. During his searches, he’s found some exciting changes coming in the next 12 months.

Frank Sinatra already knew, “I wanna wake up in a city, that doesn’t sleep”. These lyrics are even more true now than ever before.

New York City has been developing lots of exciting new highlights, activities and hotspots and will be welcoming new and fabulous hotels. All this will be coming into flourishing soon.

You’ll be crazy not to go in 2019.

Aside from a whole new neighbourhood with a moving building, glamping with a view of Lady Liberty, new hotels and World Pride celebrations, here are some of what is happening:

The Statue of Liberty Museum

This new museum will feature interactive displays, galleries and a theatre experience depicting the history of the statue as well as what it means to the United States of America.

The museum will have unobstructed views of the magical statue and will certainly enhance the experience for the visitors and is a great reason to return to the statue.

Museum of Modern Art

A renovation and expansion project is on its way for the Museum of Modern Art. By 2019 this museum will have increased its gallery space by a third and will be able to share even more art with us.

Nordstrom  Store

The Famous US store Nordstrom set foot in New York City in April 2018.  A men’s store in Midtown West, Manhattan, which includes the Clubhouse Bar and a coffee shop, custom denim designs, personal stylists, grooming and more.

An even larger women’s store will follow in fall 2019 just across the street. Ready for your Christmas outfits.

Andy Warhol

A tribute to one of America’s most iconic artists will exhibit at the Witney Museum of American Art in the Meatpacking District.

The presentation will delve into Warhol’s four-decade career and venture into the worlds of commercial illustration,  pop art, abstraction and film while uncovering new complexities to his work.

New places to sleep

Some of the new hotels I can’t wait to check out. CitizenM in Lower Manhattan, Times Square Edition by Ian Schrager, Westin New York Staten Island with a rooftop pool, Equinox Hotel in Hudson Yards and The Hoxton in Williamsburg with a trendy roof top bar.

Last but not least. The return of the well-known and iconic restaurant Pastis in Meatpacking District.

This famous French restaurant that helped transform the Meatpacking District in the early 2000s will reopen a block from where it all started on Gansevoort Street.
