Sentosa-tional: Free Singapore Tour returns with new attractions

The popular Free Singapore Tour offered to transit passengers is back after a two-year pandemic hiatus with three updated itineraries to highlight new points of interest plus a brand-new Changi Precinct Tour of the city-state’s eastern areas.

Each Free Singapore Tour is 2.5 hours in duration and runs daily with plans to increase to nine tours per day.

The new Changi Precinct Tour itinerary showcases eastern Singapore, visiting local community spaces of the Tampines heartland, Changi Village and Changi Beach for a glimpse of how local residents live.

Three existing tours – the City Sights Tour, Heritage Tour and Jewel Tour – have also been refreshed to include new points of interest.

New Civic District pit stops on the City Sights Tour include the National Gallery Singapore, Anderson Bridge and The Padang plus the new Marina Bay Financial District en route to Gardens by the Bay.

The Heritage Tour, available from June, will feature the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in Chinatown, Arab Street and Haji Lane for an in-depth look at Singapore’s multicultural heritage.

These include the Eco Community Garden at the rooftop of Our Tampines Hub (Changi Precinct Tour), Gardens by the Bay (City Sights Tour) and Jewel (Jewel Tour).

All about the Free Singapore Tour

The Free Singapore Tour program is by Changi Airport Group, Singapore Airlines and Singapore Tourism Board. It was introduced in 1987 to promote the airport as a transfer hub and entice transit passengers to visit Singapore as a holiday destination.

Eligible passengers with a layover of at least 5.5 hours and an entry visa can book online via the Changi Airport website for the Free Singapore Tour.

Pre-pandemic, 30 per cent of Changi’s airport traffic were transit and transfer passengers. In 2019, more than 80,000 passengers joined the Free Singapore Tour with Indian and Australian travellers making up more than one-third of all participants.
