Hollywood sidekicks are having a moment right now. First, Ken hosted stays at Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse and now Donkey is swamp-sitting for Shrek in Scotland. And you can book this Shrek-tastic fairytale stay via Airbnb for free.

Hollywood sidekicks are having a moment right now. First, Ken hosted stays at Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse and now Donkey is swamp-sitting for Shrek in Scotland. And you can book this Shrek-tastic fairytale stay via Airbnb for free.

At 3am AEST on 14 October 2023, you can book Shrek’s Swamp for free for an exclusive two-night stay for up to three guests from 27–29 October 2023.

Located at the Ardverikie Estate in the Scottish Highlands south of Inverness, Shrek’s Swamp is a stumpy, secluded haven that’s fit for a solitude-seeking ogre.

With Donkey in charge, Shrek fans will have the chance to live their own versions of the layered ogre life (minus the torches, pitchforks and intrusive Duloc Knights).

During their stay in the secluded swampscape, guests can relax in the ambience of ‘earwax candlelight’, enjoy parfait (everybody likes a parfait), swap stories around the fire, eat a stack of freshly made waffles for brekky and experience the privacy of Shrek’s outhouse.

On his Inverness-shire Airbnb listing, the chatty Donkey helpfully notes that the offsite toilet, sink and shower facilities are located about 20m from Shrek’s Swamp.

He describes the digs as “lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests.”

Donkey says not to worry about the signs. “They’re probably for decoration.”

“You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”
