Korean Tourism Organisation Sydney announces X-Factor Winner, Dami Im as the honorary Tourism Ambassador for Korea in Sydney.
The tourism and media elite of Sydney gathered last night at Event Cinemas, George Street to devour a few dumplings and greet the new honorary Tourism Ambassador for Korea in Australia, The X-Factor 2013 winner, Dami Im.
Hosted by the Korea Tourism Organisation, Im was presented with a plaque and the hope that her addictive personality will encourage an increase in Australian travellers visiting Korea.
“It is such an honour to become the honorary Ambassador for Korea in Australia because I consider myself very lucky to be Korean and Australian,” says Im on her appointment.
“I’ve grown up experiencing both cultures and I feel that it is my duty to let Australians know about the wonderful things in Korea.”
After her successful win on The X-Factor, Im has graced the Aria’s and ITunes charts respectively with her hit singles, ‘Alive’, ‘Gladiator’ and ‘Super Love’ – which has now achieved platinum sales in Australia.
“We think that Dami’s background as a Korean Australian and her great love of her birth country, as well as her huge fan base and connection to many Australians through her music will make her the perfect ambassador for Korea in Australia,” says Mr Sang Weon Je of Korea Tourism Organisation.
Im’s designation comes in the wake of Korea launching its new worldwide brand ‘Imagine Your Korea’ that places emphasis on the exciting things travellers can enjoy in Korea – a rich culture, long history, festivals, events, cuisine and of course the K-Pop and fashion scene.
Last year, 12 million tourists (of which 123 500 were Australian) visited Korea. With Im’s designation and the country’s rebranding, it is hoped that the renewed interest in Korea as a tourist destination will increase.
Following the ceremonious commencement of the launch, guests were invited to indulge in a showing of Miss Granny, a South Korean comedy/drama directed by the coveted Hwan Dong-hyuk.
