Storm warnings have been issued for Hawaii as back-to-back hurricanes move towards the popular tourist destination.
Category three Hurricane Madeline is expected to reach the Big Island today and will be followed by Hurricane Lester, which could pass by all islands in the Hawaiian archipelago.
According to the Central Pacific Hurricane Centre, the destination is likely to experience strong winds of up to 185km/h and torrential rain over the next few days and potentially throughout the weekend.
Residents and travellers on the Big Island have been urged to stock up on emergency kits and first aid supplies.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has maintained its advice for Hawaii, but says Australians should follow instructions issued by local authorities.
“You should follow local sources of information on latest developments and heed all instructions issued by local authorities.”

“We continue to advise Australians to exercise normal safety precautions in the United States of America, including Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands.”
