The first pictures are here of visitors flocking to the Sultanate of Oman’s stunning 2,790 square metre exhibition showcase at Expo Milan 2015.
Since the annual event commenced on 1 May, visitors have poured through the Sultanate’s pavilion – one of the very largest at the global event.
The pavilion’s theme, ‘Heritage in Harvest: Harnessing the Sea, Sun and Sand’, sees it divided into areas that represent water, the oasis, the sea and the traditions, an authentic representation of Oman.
The Treasures of Our Seas showcases the rich marine environments and the fishing industry, which is still based on traditional techniques.
Our Rich Farming Heritage covers Oman’s unique agriculture from honey to hazelnuts and the rock roses of the mountainous region of Jebel Akhdar whilst touching on technological innovation and sustainable development possible in Oman’s tropical and Mediterranean climate.
And Harnessing Every Drop of Water, Oman demonstrates the traditional mastery of water resources such as those presented by the khareef – the summer monsoon – whose seasonal influence greens the desert region of Dhofar, makes the cultivation of frankincense possible and feeds the ancient Aflaj irrigation network of canals and dams dating back over 2,000 years that now enjoy World Heritage status.
To further enhance Oman’s presence in Milan, the Sultanate is being showcased in a stunning international photographic exhibition commissioned by the Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Tourism and curated by Anna Premoli.
The ‘Oman | Harvest Beyond Landscapes’ exhibition features 50 stunning photos from 16 international photographers and runs until 27 May, 2015.
Entry is free and is being held at the Museo della Permanente.
To capitalise on the six months of Expo Milan, Oman’s Ministry of Tourism has scheduled a full calendar of events, exhibitions, shows and events to entertain and inform visitors to the pavilion including Tourism Week and National Day from 18-26 July; Investment Week from 16-19 September; and Women’s Week from 15-17 October.
