Today, Monday 26 October, Tasmania has opened its borders to low-risk Australian states and territories, PLUS to our friends across the Tasman in New Zealand.
Monday 26 October marks the Tasmania border reopening, yay!
From today, Tasmania will allow residents of South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Australia Capital Territory, and New Zealand to visit without quarantining.
These areas have been deemed low-risk, as they have gone for a period of time having recorded little or no cases of coronavirus and no community transmission.
The government is expected to provide an update next week as to when Tasmania will reopen to New South Wales (estimated 2 November) and to Victoria (estimated by December).
Visiting Tasmania
Friends and families can now be reunited and those itching to get away and smell the freshest air in the world, can set off on a well deserved adventure.
However, all travellers from the Northern Territory, South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, and the ACT will need to register their details using the Tas e-Travel online registration system. Once this is complete, travellers will receive a unique QR code to show authorities upon arrival.
At Tasmanian airports, all arrivals (domestic and Trans-Tasman) can expect to have a health screening, including a temperature check. If a passenger has symptoms, they will be asked to get a test and isolate until the test results are back.
Travel for Tasmanians
Tasmanians can now travel to the Northern Territory, South Australia, Queensland, and the ACT, and then return home with no need to quarantine, thanks to the borders now being open to one another.
However, although Tasmania is open to Western Australia, WA still has a hard border, which means that Tasmanians won’t be able to visit unless they have an exemption.
Tasmanians that are travelling should check each state’s travel rules prior to setting off, as some states require a completed border entry form ahead of time.
