Several events have been cancelled and postponed in Thailand over the next month as the country mourns the recent passing of its longest reigning monarch.
Last week, King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away at the age of 88 after suffering from various ailments.
The news devastated locals who learned of his death via a breaking news update on local television.
According to a Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) update, the mourning period in Thailand will last up to 12 months, however, tourists will likely feel the full impact of the King’s passing over the next month.
In addition to being advised to be respectful and dress appropriately during the mourning period, The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) says several events have been postponed and cancelled over the next 30 days and some tourist attractions will be closed.
