This destination puts its Easter eggs in several baskets

The region will play host to the Kenilworth Cheese, Wine and Food Festival on Easter Saturday (4 April) – a free event which kicks off with a cheese rolling competition, Cheester Egg Hunt for children aged four to seven years and gourmet cooking demonstrations.

It’s not only cheese and wine that will be on the menu over Easter. Sunshine Coast Destination Ltd (SCDL) CEO, Simon Ambrose, says there’s a range of free cultural, family and outdoor events taking place.

“On Easter Sunday, Maroochydore will be transformed into a multicultural mecca as part of the Ocean Street World Festival with the Big Top opening, Brazilian Samba, Cuban Salsa – as well as cuisine from all corners of the globe.”

Keen surfers will also have a good reason to head to the Coast in April.

“What many people might not know is that the Sunshine Coast is home to Australia’s second longest running surf contest – the Pa and Ma Bendall Surf Classic (3-5 April), which this year celebrates its 41st anniversary,” he said.

The surfing contest began in 1974 and has attracted some big names over the years including Wayne (Rabbit) Bartholomew, Simon Anderson and Hawaiian legend, Gerry Lopez.

Free holiday buses will reduce traffic congestion in Noosa for residents and visitors. From 3 – 12 April, Noosa Council in partnership with TransLink are providing free public transport.

  • Special Easter Twilight Markets will be held along beautiful Bulcock Beach (3 & 10 April)
  • Treasure Hunt (4 April) and kids craft workshops (4, 8, 11, 15 & 18 April) at Eumundi Markets
  • Aero Engine Run Day plus jeep rides and jumping castle at the Queensland Air Museum (11 April)
  • Carnival of the Animals- a Circa and QPAC production (13-14 April) at Nambour Civic Centre
  • Free school holiday show – Pirates of the Ginger Factory held 11am daily (13-17 April)
