VISA CHANGES: Papua New Guinea temporarily suspends visas on arrival

Papua New Guinea's government has temporarily suspended visas on arrival for all visitors as the country tightens security ahead of the upcoming APEC Leader Summit.

Papua New Guinea’s government has temporarily suspended visas on arrival for all visitors as the country tightens security ahead of the upcoming APEC Leader Summit.

An update from The Visa Machine explained that the suspension introduced by Papua New Guinea Immigration and Citizenship Authority would only apply to travellers visiting the South Pacific nation from 30 October to 1 December 2018.

Australians planning a trip to Papua New Guinea for the coming months will need to procure a visa for the destination directly through the consulate.

Existing visa arrangements will not be affected by the temporary removal of visas on arrival; this includes visas organised by tour groups.

Australia’s Smartraveller also cautioned Aussies of the change, saying although the level of advice for Papua New Guinea hasn’t changed, travellers should “exercise a high degree of caution” particularly during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week running from 12-18 November.
