Visit USA comes to town

There were cowboys (actual cowboys), Alaskan dogs (not actual dogs but toy versions of course), Disney-themed cupcakes and even a Harry Potter.

That’s right, the annual Visit USA Expo made its way across the east coast of Australia this week, bringing with it dozens of tourism operators, hoteliers, tourism bureaus and attraction operators from the United States.

Last night expo arrived in Sydney where hundreds of agents filled the Hilton Hotel ballroom.

Consultants were able to pick up brochures and chat to suppliers before making their way to the sit-down part of the evening where they were updated on products around the country from Hollywood and Vegas, to Texas and Dallas, Orlando, Boston, New York and more.

Travel agents and North America specialist, Donald Street told KarryOn he loves attending Visit USA every year because it has an easy set up and the resources are ‘second to none’.

“The content I pick up is incredibly useful not only for me, but for my clients.”

Mr Street said the West Coast is still particularly popular amongst his Australian clients along with the East Coast and South.

“I find a lot of Australians relate to the South, but they’re still in love with the West particularly California.”

He also noted while walking around the Visit USA showroom, that there is still a lot in the USA’s Mid-West that Australians are yet to discover.

“There are a lot of points in between the West, East and South that a lot of Australians don’t yet consider.”

For the first time this year at Visit USA, agents were able to talk to suppliers before and after the sit-down update – this gave them the chance to ask any additional questions about products.

There was also half a dozen new suppliers for agents to check out.
