In news that’ll likely leave your jaw hanging off the floor for around 30 seconds, Canberra has been named one of the world’s top cities to visit in 2018. Yes, Canberra!

The city often disregarded by Australian citizens as “dull”, seems to have a solid international reputation or perhaps the powers-that-be are trying to trick people into utilising the Capital’s new international services launched by Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways.

KarryOn Konspiracies aside, Lonely Planet is convinced Canberra has a lot to offer overseas visitors, as it was slotted at third place in the ‘Top 10 cities for 2018’ list ahead of Hamburg in Germany (4th), Matera in Italy (7th) and Guanajuato in Mexico (9th).

It was the only Australian city to make the list this year and it’s also the highest an Aussie destination has ever ranked.

The guys over at Lonely Planet justified the ranking by saying Canberra is a “hidden gem” with “rich history, culture and entertainment”.

“It offers something for every kind of traveller.”

And if you ask the team handling Canberra’s tourism industry, they say the ranking was well deserved as Australia’s capital is a “true cosmopolitan city” offering more than just the Parliament House.

To be fair, the destination has undergone some significant changes over the last few years to become somewhat of a cultural and gastronomical hub.
