Darwin, Australia’s most underrated city (as dubbed by KarryOn and the hundreds of TravelManagers who fell in love with the destination last month), is getting a new hotel! And it’s a fancy one too.

The Westin Darwin will open in 2020 as the first Marriott International property in the Northern Territory and V-blogger Tanya Hennessy’s favourite place.

As well as being one of 50 new hotels for the hotelier to open in the Pacific over the next three years, the Darwin hotel will only one of only six Westin properties across Australia alongside, Sydney, Melbourne, Yaroomba Beach, Perth (opening 2018) and Brisbane (opening 2018).

Marriott International’s Senior Director Development of Australia, Richard Crawford, said Darwin has developed into a “vibrant and cosmopolitan hub” and expects the new property to “set a new benchmark for hospitality in the market”.

So what can Northern Territory visitors expect from the ocean-side property?

Well, it will house 240 rooms on eight floors, including 14 spacious suites, with sweeping water and city views. Guests will have access to three dining venues, including an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and a bar, where guests can sample a variety of culinary options.

Leisure facilities inside the hotel will range from a fitness studio called ‘WestinWORKOUT®’, a resort-style swimming pool and a spa.

The property will also appeal to business travellers by featuring more than 1,100 square metres of meeting and event space, as well as an executive lounge.

The Westin Darwin will prominently be located in the Darwin Waterfront Precinct, a 15-minute drive from Darwin International Airport. The precinct is cradled on the ocean side by Stokes Hill Wharf, where visitors will find a mix of cafes and restaurants, plus space to relax and enjoy the harbour views.

Guests staying at the hotel can conveniently access key attractions, including the Darwin Convention Centre and the city centre via Darwin’s Sky Bridge and the Hughes Avenue Walkway.
