The China tour operator has seen a growing trend amongst travellers researching and booking trips to Hangzhou, where they’re ticking off must-visit ancient sites and temples.

Australian General Manager, Andrew Mulholland, said that although the destination is one of China’s seven Ancient Capitals, it’s been somewhat under the radar compared to major centers such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Chengdu.

However, Mulholland noted a “burst of tourist activity” for the destination following last week’s G20 Summit held in the city.

“The publicity spreading worldwide from the G20 could unleash a burst of tourist activity from both first time visitors and repeat travellers looking to broaden their China experiences.”

“Hangzhou has been named one of China’s Top 10 Innovative Cities by the United Nations and has a host of drawcards for foreign tourists.”

According to Mulholland, Hangzhou is ideal for history buffs, with attractions and sites dating back up to 2,200 years such as the Zizi Wetlands, West Lake, and the Grand Canal as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The city also has a “great network of trains, planes, subways and buses contributing to an already vibrant tourism infrastructure”.

Mr Mulholland said that Hangzhou is featured in many of its comprehensive tours as well as options for the independent traveller.

New spotlight on the city is particularly good news for China Eastern, which timed the announcement of its new Hangzhou-Sydney services with G20 proceedings.

The airline will operate three weekly services between the two cities on its A330-200 aircraft. Click here for more information.
