The 2015 Visa Global Travel Intentions Study found people are boarding flights and taking holidays for bonding opportunities.

Around 15 percent of those surveyed said bonding with their travel companions was the top motivator for booking a trip.

Another 26 percent said they choose a destination to visit people. This differs from travellers from other countries who place the greatest emphasis on the availability of travel activities.

Aussies travel to bond with partners and friends.

Australians are also more likely than the global average (63 percent vs 58 percent) to travel with a spouse or partner.

The survey also found Aussies are travelling more for leisure than they are for business and an increasing number are heading overseas for education.

More than a quarter of Australians travelled to multiple destinations in a single holiday compared to 12 percent global travellers.

We’re also spending more time away, with the average Aussie holiday lasting 16 nights while the global average sits at nine nights.
