Domestic tourism resumes as Fiji hits 60% fully jabbed milestone

Fiji has taken yet another step forward in its #ArrivalRevival, with domestic tourism restarting after the island nation achieved 60% fully vaccinated.

Fiji has taken yet another step forward in its #ArrivalRevival, with domestic tourism restarting after the island nation achieved 60% fully vaccinated.

Fiji’s national vaccination drive has reached another milestone, with 60% of its eligible population now fully vaccinated, as verified by Dr Rachel Devi, Head of Fiji’s COVID-19 Vaccine Taskforce and confirmed last night in a press conference by Fiji’s Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama.

This vaccination achievement allows for a subsequent easing of internal border restrictions across Viti Levu and a much-needed boost for domestic tourism and the path to an eventual reopening for international travellers.

As the industry prepares to reopen tourism, Fijian locals will be able to enjoy domestic getaways from 4 October 2021.

The Fiji tourism industry says it welcomes this development and is looking forward to resuming business.

Many tourism operators have been integral in supporting the vaccination roll-out, with over 100 properties now having fully vaccinated teams and approval by the Care Fiji Commitment Programme; a destination-wide COVID-safety framework administered by Tourism Fiji and designed to reassure travellers of the destination’s commitment to its tourism guests and local communities.

Brent Hill, CEO Tourism Fiji says; “We also acknowledge the very proactive support of tourism operators in assisting frontliners, the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in vaccinating people in urban, rural and maritime areas.

“These collective efforts have boosted Fiji’s vaccination coverage and steered us closer to also reopening for international visitors and reviving our industry.”

“Our vaccination drive has always been the pathway back to tourism in the country, so it is a welcoming milestone achievement to have collectively reached. We should all be proud of this drive towards reopening,” Brent Hill continued.

Tourism Fiji says it’s planning a local social media influencer campaign to showcase how the industry and resorts are operating in the lead up to Fiji welcoming international visitors once again.
