EASING THE STING: Jetstar Announces New 14kg For $19 Carry-On Rule

It's a sinking feeling when you realise your bag is about to be weighed before your Jetstar flight and you learn that it's one or two kilograms over the limit and you're stung with a nasty fee.

It’s a sinking feeling when you realise your bag is about to be weighed before your Jetstar flight and you learn that it’s one or two kilograms over the limit and you’re stung with a nasty fee.

You realise it’s time to hand your precious holiday savings over to Jetstar…OR try to dress yourself in all your clothes at once (yes hello, I’m just catching my flight to the Gold Coast wearing 10 layers, what of it?).

No doubt your clients have been in the same situation as well.

To lessen this awkward situation Jetstar has introduced a new $19 carry-on charge which lets passengers take up to 14kg of carry-on luggage onboard their flight.

At double the amount of Jetstar’s standard 7kg included carry-on, it will no doubt be a welcome addition to may travellers.

It’s a better deal than Jetstar’s first paid carry-on option which was introduced last year and allowed travellers to up their carry-on by 3kg to 10kg.

Even with the extra weight the carry-on bag still must be small enough to fit in the overhead locker and no bigger than 56cm (height) x 36cm (width) x 23cm (depth).

Good news for Club Jetstar members too. They score a 20% discount when they purchase the top-up as part of their flight booking.

Jetstar does note that the add-on is not available on all routes at present and is also subject to availability.

Jetstar notes that “If additional carry-on is sold out for your flight and your carry-on baggage exceeds your allowance, you’ll have to check in your carry-on baggage at a higher cost.”
