For Australians nothing quite beats boarding a plane or taking a long drive to another state just to see… family.
That is, according to a new study, which found that visiting family and friends is a top reason to travel for nearly half of all Aussies.
Awwwww.
Research released by Travelex revealed that the trend of booking a destination to see relatives survives the ages despite new technology keeping the world connected almost 24/7.
Daniel Simone, Travelex’s Head of Retail for Australia said the results highlight that nothing beats spending quality face-to-face time with the ones you love.
“It’s heart-warming to see that more and more Aussies are choosing family-focused trips over flashy self-indulgent breaks.”
Daniel Simone, Travelex Head of Retail for Australia
“Australia is known for its many cultures with people originating from all walks of life and corners of the world.
“With many Australians living abroad from their families, meeting up in real time instead of catching glimpses through a screen can often be more exciting than sightseeing or a luxurious getaway.”
The study also found that nearly 44 percent of Aussies spent their childhood vacations visiting family and friends, while around 51 percent were secretly excited about the prospect of doing it again.
Surprisingly, flying was another top reason Australians loved to travel, with 32 percent admitting they enjoy the novelty of plane food and the feeling of going somewhere.
“That holiday feeling’ never seems to fade and still to this day carries the same sentimental value as it did the first time it was experienced.”
Daniel Simone, Travelex Head of Retail for Australia
“Holidays are all about reconnecting and having fun with the people you love, wherever that may be.
“Flying to your native home or venturing abroad to visit an old friend can be the best way to do exactly that.”
