FANCY A SNAG? Australia Is Getting Its First Bunnings Hotel

Many Aussies adore their weekend visit to Bunnings, so it should come as welcome news that soon you'll be able to stay there the night then feast on their famous sausage sizzle in the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.

Living the Aussie dream much?

This concept will become a reality in Doncaster, Melbourne next year when a brand new $90 million, multi-level Bunnings will be topped by an Accor hotel.

Seriously. The six-storey Mercure Melbourne Doncaster will be set atop of the Bunnings superstore and will feature 183 rooms, a rooftop pool and sundeck, a restaurant, bar and outdoor dining space and a fitness centre.

Accor Pacific’s Chief Operating Officer Simon McGrath is pumped for the new “Bunnings Hote” saying he was delighted to “commence construction on this flagship Mercure in the heart of Doncaster – our first-ever hotel built atop a Bunnings Warehouse.”

Bunnings Acting General Manager for Property, Garry James commented on the new concept, saying Bunnings was always looking at opportunities to innovate the design of their stores.

“There’s no cookie cutter approach; we always assess the local need and what can be achieved in a space,” he said.

Seems like smart business to turn a Saturday visit to Bunnings into a full weekend getaway at a hardware hotel.
