Australia’s newest independent airline Bonza took off on its first flight to Victoria, touching down at Melbourne Avalon Airport from its Sunshine Coast base. It’s Bonza’s first-ever direct flight to Victoria and the carrier’s third launch route.
One-way flights with Bonza between the Sunshine Coast and Avalon went on sale last month from $79 per person.
Bonza will fly direct between the Sunshine Coast and Avalon three times per week with flights available to book on the Fly Bonza app or via travel advisors, until late October 2023.
The low-cost carrier launched on 31 January 2023 with an inaugural flight from Sunshine Coast Airport to the Whitsunday Coast.
Bonza CEO Tim Jordan said the airline’s first flight to Victoria was a significant milestone for both Queenslanders and Victorians.
“South-East Queenslanders can now fly direct to Avalon for a wide range of holiday experiences in Melbourne, Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Great Ocean Road. Likewise, Victorians can now fly direct from Avalon to the Sunshine Coast to visit loved ones and take a well-earned break,” Mr Jordan said.
Avalon Airport CEO Tony Brun said connecting the Sunshine Coast and Avalon would also reap benefits for travellers from greater Melbourne, Geelong and surrounding regions.
