Air New Zealand is conducting a search for the best new Kiwi snacks to offer onboard its flights. But while it may be switching things up, some things remain sacrosanct: the iconic Air New Zealand end-of-flight lolly is staying put. Whew!
The Aotearoa New Zealand flag carrier last revamped its domestic snack programme in 2021, a move Air New Zealand Chief Customer and Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty says was a “huge success”.
“But we’re ready to take things up a notch with even more variety, flavours, and surprises across all flights and mealtimes.”
According to Geraghty, the airline is seeking a diverse range of snacks that cater to different dietary needs and time-of-day appetites. The goal is to have the new snacks onboard before the end of the year.
“Think sweet, savoury, healthy, indulgent, and everything in between,” she says.
So Air New Zealand has put the call out to the country’s snack providers to show their wares. But the snacks must cater to diverse dietary requirements, be sustainable, and have a touch of Kiwi flair.
Surely famed Giapo ice cream is in with a good chance?
“Whether it’s a classic Kiwi treat or a creative flavour from indigenous ingredients, we want to showcase the best snacks that New Zealand has to offer,” Geraghty says.
The airline is committed to championing Kiwi brands, “particularly from Māori or Pasifika businesses, social enterprises or those celebrating the provenance of our regions”, she added.
The carrier will award extra brownie points to those companies which prioritise social impact and sustainability.
Expressions of interest close on 1 May.
