Flights to nowhere seem to be the rage during these COVID-times and EVA Air’s latest version is one of our favourites so far. Introducing you to “Fly! Love is in the Air”…

Taiwan’s EVA Airways is partnering with travel experience company Mobius on a new and exciting campaign named “Fly! Love is in the Air.”

“Fly! Love is in the Air” is a series of flights to nowhere, that aim to fulfil grounded travellers’ desire for flying and potentially help them find the partner of their dreams on what is effectively a 30,000ft speed date!

The 3-hour flights take off on Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s day, we are 100% expecting sickeningly sweet scenes.

A sky-high kinda love

Each speed dating flight takes off from Taipei’s Taoyuan International Airport and takes passengers on a scenic flight over the city. Passnegers will get to check out the east coast of Taiwan, with stunning views of the mountain ranges that stretch from Hualien City in the north to Taitung City in the south and the evening flights will take passengers over the western shoreline of the island, where they will see the bright city lights beneath them.

If 3 hours of sky-high speed dating isn’t enough, daters can also enjoy an additional two hours of romantic time back on land, too.

While in the sky, the event states that “the flight attendants incarnate the love Cupid for you, and fly to a happy voyage together.”

Pretty cute. Or kindy creepy? You decide.

When it comes to choosing seats, it’s a no can do. Seats are selected at random and passengers will be paired up by ‘lucky draw’. However, passengers will be free to move around the cabin and flirt with other potential matches during meal time.

The meals will be prepared by Michelin-starred chef Motoke Nakamura and guests are encouraged to have deep and meaningful conversations with each other (through face masks, of course!).

Back on the ground, guests will enjoy an afternoon tea on Christmas day, a romantic candlelit dinner on New Year’s Eve and a breakfast date on New Year’s Day.

The deets

Listen up, lovebirds.

Each flight has a limit of 40 passengers — 20 men and 20 women and is exclusive to university graduates with citizenship in Taiwan.

The age requirement for the flights are men between 28 and 38 years old and women between 24 and 35 – apparently due to the fact, Taiwanese women are looking for older men.

Tickets for the speed dating events are TWD8388 ($400AUD) per person.

Christmas day is already sold out but the New Year’s Eve and Day flights are still open for application. If you happen to be single, in Taiwan, and a twenty to thirty-something uni grad – good luck!
