Holiday flings, not just for twenty-somethings

Cruise ships aren’t the only place older travellers are jumping beds, they’re doing it while visiting various destinations too.

Cruise ships aren’t the only place older travellers are jumping beds, they’re doing it while visiting various destinations too.

Findings released by Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI) found one in ten travellers aged 50 and over are finding romance while on holidays.

Eleven percent of those said their holiday lovin’ was with a local while on an overseas trip – that’s the exact same number of younger travellers who said they’d hooked up with a resident from the country they visited.

What’s interesting is, 34 percent of over 50s hooked up with someone younger than themselves and only 14 percent got raunchy with someone older.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), the majority of over 50 romps were only holiday flings, with just 25 percent of romances continuing after the holiday – the lowest figure across the age brackets.

SCTI’s head said figures prove holiday flings aren’t just for the young, but ‘for the young at heart as well’.

“When we think about holiday flings, we tend to think it’s younger travellers who are having all the fun, but our research shows otherwise.”

Gonorrhea rose to 126, up from 60 and herpes was found amongst 265 elderly people, up from 109.

The figures shared by the Daily Mail showed men seem to be a lot more irresponsible than the ladies, because they were diagnosed with far more STIs. For example 329 are said to have had herpes between 2009 and 2013 compared to 88 women.
